Freckle is a space for slow journalism – for stories that delve into the landscapes of Northern Ireland and beyond to better understand how people see the world and their place in it. There is a beautiful diversity of responses to these deeper questions we have been asking of people over the summer, and it has been food for the soul to spend time with some of the most curious, thought- provoking people in this beautiful, complicated place we live in. After much collecting, collating, photographing and editing, we bring you issue three of Freckle!

We celebrated its presence in the world with a night in Boundary Beer brewery on an autumnal night in East Belfast. It was magical to see the community that is being cultivated around this little independent, ad-free magazine that seeks to shed light on the positive things going on in this place. A big thanks to Matthew from Boundary Beer and Mike from Mikes Fancy Cheese for providing the nourishment, live music from Victor Henriquez and all the volunteers who helped out in many ways.

We hope you enjoy reading the stories in this issue, hopefully curled up somewhere warm and calm.

Christmas Eve 2014

On Christmas Eve 2014, our crowdfunding campaign finished, with a humbling 178 backers raising £5,936 so we can print the first issue of Freckle magazine in January 2015. We are delighted, and all of us at Freckle would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all who have pledged your hard earned money, to those who shared the message to friends and family and to all of you who have shared the love. You all have helped Freckle become a reality. We're resting up for a few days over Christmas but we'll be back at work soon to bring you our first ever edition of Freckle in late January 2015.

Rest, breathe, smile, eat, relax and go slowly.
